HIGHLIGHTS

  • Private lesson with artisan Ayako Morita in a renovated machiya studio.

  • Choose 3 hand-dyed washi colours (yellow / red / blue) & 5 silk-thread colours (red / blue / yellow / white / green).

  • Paste the washi onto a bamboo frame to create a one-of-a-kind rain umbrella or parasol.

  • Close-up demonstration of traditional techniques before your hands-on session.

  • Photo shoot with display umbrellas outside the atelier—perfect Higashi-Chaya backdrop.

  • Finished wagasa is lacquered by the artisan and shipped to you about 2 months later (worldwide shipping included).


ITINERARY

  1. Meet at Mikairi-Yanagi → short walk to studio

  2. Introduction & demo – history, tools, materials

  3. Choose washi colour

  4. Hands-on pasting – attach washi under the artisan’s guidance

  5. Select thread colour & set inner décor

  6. Photo time outside the shop

  7. Finish & depart – umbrellas stay for final lacquer / assembly

BOOKING & ARRIVAL

  • Reserve at least 14 days in advance.

  • Sessions: Mon–Fri 10:30–12:30 / 13:30–15:30

  • Access – 10 min taxi from Kanazawa Station / 5 min walk from “Hashiba-machi” bus stop.

  • Your booking is confirmed only after you receive a confirmation e-mail.


CANCELLATION POLICY

≥ 8 days before (17:00 JST) 100 %
2 – 7 days before 80 % refund (20 % fee)
1 day before 50 % refund
Same day / no-show 0 %
If the workshop must cancel, a full refund is issued.
Schedule or guest-number changes after the penalty window are not possible; please cancel and re-book.

  • Wear clothing that can handle a little glue.

  • Non-participating companions must be arranged in advance (space is limited).
